John Daly and Bryson DeChambeau
The 150th Open has got off to a cracking start, as some of the best golfers in the world come together to play 3 intense rounds of golf. While there have been several fantastic groupings for the Open, one pairing has particularly caught everyone’ eye- especially after they had quite the blast. John Daly and Bryson DeChambeau started off the day with a bang, and ended it with memories that they will cherish as good friends.
After the first round, an exhausted Daly had quite a lot to say about the day and his counterpart. He talked about his experience with the different pin placements on the course. “I’ve never had more 70, 80, 90 foot putts in my life. They put the pins in some really good spots today. I’ve been here enough to know a lot of those were Sunday pins, they were brutal. It was hard to get the ball close. I just hung in there. I just had so many putts. If I can get rid of the bogeys tomorrow I can have a better day,” said Daly.

On playing with Bryson DeChambeau, Daly said that it was quite the experience for him. “It was fun, just to see the power he has, He’s hitting his forehand about 280, 290 off the tee. It’s amazing, it is fun to watch.” Talking about previous interaction with Bryson, and whether they knew each other from before, Daly commented, “Yeah I mean I’ve spoken to him before. We’ve spoken a lot at the Majors we’ve played and the PGA Tour. He’s a great kid, I love watching him play.”
Daly said that Bryson definitely knew what he was doing, and did not need much advise to go around the course. “No, no I mean he knew the course, he knew what he was doing. I’m thinking I’m two or three on some of the holes. If he’s a driver he could driver 2, he could almost driver 3 but he played quite conservatively but that’s his game plan. If I had that power I would trying to drive some of those part fours.” Lastly, finishing his exciting day he talked about the crowd. “I love it here. I’ve always loved the British Show. Being here, the fans over the years have been just awesome.”
