Jon Rahm has straight up refused to take place of Rory McIlroy as the new PGA Tour policy board member following the resignation of the North Irish golfer.

In a shocking twist on Tuesday, Rory McIlroy resigned from the PGA Tour policy board. The North Irishman who had been highly vocal of the Tour, would send an email to Commissioner Jay Monahan informing him about the decision. Since then the name of Jon Rahm had been tipped to succeed him. The two-time major champion though has blatantly refused it.
Like McIlroy, Rahm has also not been shy of using his voice. He though was one of the few players who publicly supported Monahan following the announcement of the golf merger. With him withdrawing from the TGL owned by McIlroy and Tiger Woods, the topic of him being the new member emerged. The Spaniard though seems uninterested in working behind the scenes.
Talking about how tedious the job could be off the course ahead of the 2023 DP World Tour Championship, the former World No.1 said as per CBS Sports:
"Oh, you won't see me there. Absolutely no chance. I've been asked a couple times if I have any interest. But I'm not going to spend … I don't know how many meetings they have, but they are six, seven, hours long. I'm not here for that."
These words from Rahm now make it clear that he will not be the one replacing him on the board. It also comes at a time when he used the “commitment” term as a reason for not attending the inaugural season of the TGL.
Alan Shipnuck blasts Jay Monahan for ripping out the heart of Rory McIlroy
The names of Jay Monahan and Alan Shipnuck have dominated the conversations in recent times. While the PGA Tour Commissioner has been under the heat of many since the announcement of the merger with the PIF, Shipnuck has caused a stir with the release of his new book, “LIV or LET Die“. The golf writer has now blasted the top boss for ripping out the heart of Rory McIlroy.
McIlroy had not held back from taking shots at LIV Golf since the PIF-funded tour kickstarted. Shipnuck has alleged that Monahan and Jimmy Dunne, another tour policy board member were responsible for the resignation of the North Irish golfer.
Shipnuck wrote on X when a user asked for his perspective regarding this development,
"This was inevitable. Jay Monahan and Jimmy Dunne tore open Rory's chest cavity, ripped out his heart, and stomped on it in Softspikes".
The four-time major champion had labeled himself as a “sacrificial lamb” used by the tour following the merger announcement. His resignation from his post now raises several questions.
Who would eventually step up and replace him as the player-director will be interesting to see. With both Tiger Woods and his rival Patrick Cantlay on the board, the next few weeks would be crucial for the tour as they seek his replacement.
