In an elated mood, Jon Rahm, the 87th Masters champion, entered the culminating round of the Mexican Open on Sunday, hoping to maintain his defending champion status after recently winning the 87th Masters. After his exceptional performance with a 10-under 61 on Saturday, Rahm placed in a shared second place with a score of 17-under, only two strokes behind Tony Finau.
Remarkably, Rahm’s 61 record-breaking score not only held the highest score in the tournament but also his own personal best on the PGA Tour. During the round, he garnered ten birdies, no bogeys, one missed green, and 25 putts, including four putts from 25 feet and beyond stating “Everything just seemed perfect,”.
Albeit missing a 7-foot birdie shot at the 16th hole, Rahm’s final shot aimed for an eagle to bring him to sub-60. However, his power fade led him to a dead lie in the sand, resulting in an underwhelming par to end the round.

Anticipating another impressive round like Saturday’s, Rahm eagerly awaited Sunday’s final round, where he would compete alongside Tony Finau and Akshay Bhatia in the final group.
Rahm’s excellent performance on Saturday led him to break the course record at Vidanta Vallarta. Impressively, he has already won four times on the PGA TOUR this season and is anticipated to defend his Mexico Open title, as he will be in the final group on Sunday.
According to yahoo news, The world No. 1 initially started the round with a 6-under 29, the first time he had broken 30 on the front nine on the PGA TOUR, before adding four more birdies on the back nine.
Despite Rahm missing a couple of birdie chances, he retained his positive outlook, stating that “it was just golf, and you don’t make them all.” Without a doubt, Rahm’s extraordinary performance on Saturday places him in an exceptional position to defend his title and continue his winning streak.
Jon Rahm’s performance at the Mexican Open on Saturday was a joy. The 87th Masters champion made an exceptional show with his remarkable putting skills and excellent ball-striking ability.
Though he missed out on the chance to shoot sub-60, he remains in a share of second place, just two shots back of Tony Finau entering Sunday’s final round at Vidanta. Rahm is hoping to successfully defend his title and win for the fifth time on Tour this calendar year, and with his skill and form, it’s not an impossible feat.
