On Tuesday LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman made a big announcement regarding his league. The two-time major champion informed the world about their decision to not purse the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) points anymore and took back their application. Their new-signee Jon Rahm has now expressed his thoughts on it.
The current World No.3 left the golf fans surprised by joining LIV Golf in December 2023. Since then, he has been the center of attention in several conversations. The Spanish golfer has now taken a dig at the world rankings points and labeled them as not a “good system“.
Speaking on this decision at the press conference ahead of LIV Golf Hong Kong, Rahm said:
The one thing I can say is I’m going to back to what I said two years ago in the DP World Tour Championship. I didn’t think it was a good system back then, and if anything, the more time that goes on, the more it proves to be wrong.Jon Rahm on golf ranking system.
Rahm currently is one of the four LIV golfers to be in the top 50 world golf rankings. Much of his ranking points though come from this previous accomplishments on PGA Tour events last year. With LIV Golf not receiving the points, it is likely that his rank will fall down in future.
Brandel Chamblee takes BRUTAL ‘sideshow’ dig at Jon Rahm
Jon Rahm’s $600 million to LIV Golf took several people by surprise. His switch from the PGA Tour led to widespread of reactions from fans online, with many slamming him for this move. One of those person was Brandel Chamblee.
The Golf Channel analyst has been a strong critic of LIV Golf. Since the inception of the breakaway tour, he has taken shots at them. When Rahm joined them, he blasted the 2023 Masters Champion and claimed he sold his “career out“. This time he has taken a brutal ‘sideshow‘ dig at the Spaniard.
The 61-year-old believes that Rahm lost his status as a top player since jumping ships. Speaking to former PGA Tour star Scott Verplank on his podcast, Chamblee pointed out how it just stuck to him while Rahm was participating in one of the recent events.
The music was blaring, he had shorts on, and he was getting pretty pissy about somebody taking a picture of him in the middle of his swing. And it just hit me. It just hit me…. and I thought, this guy went from essentially having a lead role in The Godfather to now being a sideshow vaudeville act.Brandel Chamblee on Jon Rahm.
Chamblee though was not done with taking shots at LIV golfers. In a separate tweet on X, he would fire shots at Anthony Kim, who made his return to golf after being away for twelve years. The golf broadcaster did not seem too pleased with many calling Kim’s return a “success“.
As Chamblee continues his scathing remarks, Kim and Rahm will be looking to ignore him and focus on the Hong Kong event in the upcoming days. Kim would be hoping for a better outing than last time where he finished second-last, whereas Rahm will be aiming for his first win of the season.
