The waiting time is over as the World No.3 Jon Rahm finally made his debut in the LIV Golf 2024. The first event of this season has started this week from 2nd Feb at Mayakoba, Mexico. He had an absolutely terrific start to the event as by the end of Friday, he was tied for the fourth spot.
Moving away from sports, let’s talk about entertainment. The first round of this event was mixed with some light moments as Rahm greeted on the first tee with roaring music.
The Spaniard on Friday given a magnificent welcome by LIV Golf. With Bad Bunny music playing in the background helping him with his opening tee shot. Post round reflecting on this flabbergasting moment he said that the vibe was quite electric and different. It wasn’t too distinct from how he used to play at home. The pairing with Talor Gooch and Cameron Smith was also quite nice according to him.
Initially Rahm thought that playing the background of his choice would give him confidence. But instead he became nervous and said he could feel the pressure. His heartbeat went a little bit up. But eventually he hit a great tee shot in the starting of the day.
It's definitely a little different vibe, but I quite enjoy the music. It's not too different to how we play at home. A lot of us have -- especially the people I play with, have golf carts with some pretty powerful speakers. If anything it was low compared to what I'm used to. Yeah, it was great.Jon Rahm on LIV Golf atmosphere as per The Mirror.
Jon Rahm record-breaking deal with LIV Golf
Last year in December, this professional made a deal of gigantic $600 million with LIV Golf. After this incident he reflected on it saying he is quite happy and LIV had so much things to offer him besides money.
He further added that he is proud to join LIV and excited to bring growth to the sport. The addition of Rahm is certainly a huge win for the LIV Golf and massive blow to the PGA Tour. LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman himself admitted this.
The breakaway tour’s first event of the season is currently being played in Mayakoba, Mexico, where Rahm is making his debut. He enjoyed a strong start to this and had an impressive performance during the first round.
The Legion XIII captain made a beautiful start to the beginning saw him card a five-under-par 66. Despite this strong performances though, he was far behind the leader, Joaquin Niemann. The Chilean golfer shoot an incredible score of 59 while being 12-under during the first round.
He now leads the event by four strokes. Unless an extraordinary slip up takes place, Neimann will likely pipe Rahm down to claim victory on the first event of the new LIV Golf season.
