The importance of a caddie is well known by a pro-golfer- especially in their times of stress. Not only do the caddies help the golfers around the course, but they play a much more important role in helping and reassuring their golfers when they are under pressure. The same can be said for Jordan Spieth and his caddie Michael Greller, who not only share a special bond on the course, but also find the latter helping the former when needed.

The recent 2022 Scottish Open is a great example of one such incident. Windy conditions had set up for a challenging day on the second round of the Open. Spieth was now second guessing his club selection ahead of making a short par-3. With 111 yards up, Spieth and Michael had an interesting conversation. “Is this even getting within 10 yards of the green?” Spieth asked Greller according to Golf.com, stepping off his ball to reconsider. “You think it does?”

However even as Spieth was unsure, Greller held his nerves. “I mean, if it ends up, y’know, 100, that’s good,” Greller said, telling Spieth to keep his club. Showing trust in his caddie, Spieth decided to hold on to his club and made his shot. “I mean, it’s just not even remotely close to going 90 yards,” he said just after hitting. But to his surprise it was a different story.

The ball went and landed just five or six feet from the hole to Spieth’s surprise. “Oh my God, it did. Didn’t it look like it was going 40 yards short?” Spieth said, stunned. Trusting his caddie had paid off once again for the golfer, who will remember that shot for some time to come.
