In recent weeks, the name of professional golfer Justin Thomas has made several headlines. The two-time major champion is currently struggling for form. His pick for the Ryder Cup saw further drama as fans criticized his selection. He once again became the trending topic when reports of him firing his father, Mike Thomas as his coach emerged. Senior Thomas has now hit back at this and called it “stupid”.
The news became hot gossip as reports by renowned journalist Todd Lewis claimed that JT had fired his putting coach, John Graham, and had placed his father Mike in the backseat. A recent Instagram post where he was practicing alone further added fuel to this rumored fire.
JT’s father, Mike Thomas has been the head professional of the Harmony Landing Country Club since 1990. His work at the club was a major reason for his son to take up golf.
“You’re kidding. That’s just stupid. That’s what some people in the media do. It’s ridiculous. I just left Justin. We worked all morning. But listen, if he did fire me, and it was for the better, then what’s the problem? I guess they have something to talk about,” JT’s father was quoted by Golf Digest.
Mike Thomas admits son Justin Thomas is practicing solo on his golf swing

The 2022-23 season has not been a profitable one for Justin Thomas. The 15-time PGA Tour winner missed cuts in several tournaments due to his poor performances in those events. Despite this, he has the backing and support of some of his colleagues and close ones. So it was pretty obvious that his father would be there standing to help his son get back to his feet.
While firing back at the reports that suggested he was fired, Senior Thomas did admit that his son is working alone a little bit on his swing. “There are things he needs to do himself, he’s working really hard,” his father said before adding that Thomas submits a video every day to review his play. He though declined to comment regarding the John Graham situation.
Thomas is now scheduled to take part in the upcoming Fortinet Championship. This event could serve as a good warm-up for him before he packs his bag and boards the plane for Rome to appear in the Ryder Cup later in the month. A strong performance in these events could silence some of his doubters and lay down a huge mark regarding his character.
