As the countdown for the Ryder Cup continues, the players are getting themselves ready for the showpiece. While all 12 members including team captain Luke Donald are appearing at the BMW PGA Championship this week, a few Team USA are taking a break. However, there seems to be no break for Justin Thomas, who is gearing up for the Fortinet Championship following his controversial pick.

Thomas who is also popular among fans by his initials “JT”, has endured one of the worst seasons of his career. He struggled heavily in competitions which led to him missing several cuts. Despite this poor form, he was selected for the Ryder Cup squad by captain Zach Johnson, which led to a huge backlash on social media. His pick with the snub of Keegan Bradley, was not well-received by the fans.

Speaking ahead at the press conference for the Fortinet Championship, JT claimed that he does not feel extra pressure to play well after the captains pick. He further said he is here to play golf and give himself a chance and not to prove anything.

I think… I mean, now that I’ve been picked, I don’t have to prove anything,” he said. The two-time major champion further added “I don’t.. It’s just more about I’m here to play golf in a golf tournament and play well.” This tournament could help him get back in form and recover some much-needed confidence that he might have lost following his poor performances.

The worries and struggles of Justin Thomas at the greens were clearly felt by everyone. A former World No. 1 during his peak, things just did not seem working out for him. This led to a wild report last week that he had fired his dad, Mike Thomas, as his coach. His father would later call the report “stupid” but did admit that his son is working alone on his seeing techniques, something he explained this week.

JT claimed that he felt a little lost following another failure at the Wyndham Championship. “Nothing is as extreme as it is as much as it’s just me being me again and just trying to dig it out of the dirt and take ownership,” he further said. He would also express his gratitude for the team that has been involved with him during the hard times.

Despite his struggles, the form of Justin Thomas at international events especially the Ryder Cup is astonishing. In the biennial tournament against Europe, he has a 6-2-1 record, something he will hope to improve even further. His experience at this event is going to be crucial if Team USA hopes to retain their crown in Rome later on in September.
