The PGA Tour is currently on the roll at the moment. Ever since their $3 billion investment deal with Strategic Sports Group (SSG), the circuit has come on top ahead of their rivals, LIV Golf. Things now are seeming to get even better as Los Angeles Lakers‘ star LeBron James and music artist Drake are reported to become investors in the Tour’s new enterprise.

Following the conclusion of the deal, the tour launched the PGA Tour Enterprises, a new non-profit entity which will have SSG as minority owners. As per reports from New York Times, James and Drake are now investing in this.

The reports of James’ investment does not come as a surprise to many though. The basketball legend joined the Fenway Sports Group in 2021 as a partner. Since then he has had minority stakes in FSG owned sports teams including the Boston Red Sox and and Liverpool F.C.

The pair of him and Drake also own stake in Italian soccer club, A.C Milan. However, how much amount have they invested in this new entity is currently unknown. They are now joined by Maverick Carter, James’ agent Rich Paul, actor Chris Pratt, Steve Stoute and United Talent Agency CEO Jeremy Zimmer in the list of celebrities investing in the PGA Tour.

While reflecting on his childhood memories, Drake said via New York Dealbook:

Golf can be so much more than a sport. I remember some of my best childhood memories was being on the golf course with my uncle. It’s one thing to invest in a team, but to help reimagine one of the biggest leagues in the world is an incredible opportunity and I’m excited to be a part of it.

It now remains to be seen what impact will the PGA Tour have while having names like Drake and James on their side. One thing that many have pointed out is that the tour is likely not going to be super dependent on the golf merger with the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia.

Recently, golf great Tiger Woods spoke on this matter and claimed he would love to have PIF on their side but later added that the investment was not needed at the moment. Only time will tell how much will this SSG deal affect the ongoing merger.
