“It wasn’t me” – Lee Westwood slams reporter over LIV question amidst ‘go f*** yourself’ retort
Lee Westwood slams reporter on LIV question
Professional golfer Lee Westwood snapped at a reporter after being accused of an unsavory remark made to a journalist who was told to ‘go f*** himself’ by a unanimous LIV golfer at last week’s Open Championship. The LIV golf saga continues to wreak havoc in the sports world even after successfully completing its championship natch at St. Andrews.
Many players who made the Saudi switch participated at The Open last week, as many had their final major championship with the potential banning orders knocking at the doors or in cases no ranking points are being handed down to the LIV players.
Lee Westwood retorts back at Twitter
Jamie Weir, a Sky Sports reporter, tweeted that he asked questions on the topic of not playing major golf to an unnamed LIV rebel but in response, he got a nasty reply instead. As stated on mirror.co.uk, the person in question told him to ‘go f*** himself’ and further added that it was a ‘f***ing s*** question’.
Twitterians guessed the commentator to be the 49-year-old golfer Lee Westwood. Seeing his name mentioned in these discussions Westwood replied, “It wasn’t me but I did overhear the conversation in question. Jaimie works for Sky. They cover the PGA & DPWT. Where do you think their loyalties lie and what their agenda is?
Westwood also commented that he believes LIV players still have every right to participate in the team events as long as they meet the entry requirements. He stated, “I’ve been a member of the PGA Tour and still played four events on the European Tour, and why would the European Tour change their rules so dramatically because another tour doesn’t like it or feels financially threatened? As long as you fulfill the criteria to be a European Tour member, then you should still have the opportunity to try and qualify for the Ryder Cup team.”
