Tiger Woods is easily considered to be one of the greatest golfers of all time. Holding numerous records, Woods is tied in first place for the most number of men’s Major Championships win ever. Woods first turned pro at the age of 20 in 1996. By 1997 Woods was already on his way to glory, winning 3 PGA Tour events, including one major championship. In less than a year after turning pro, Woods already held the world no. 1 spot in the golfing world.
Woods‘ dominance was undeniable. He was the top-ranked golfer in the world from August 1999 to September 2004- 264 consecutive weeks- and again from June 2005 to October 2010- 281 consecutive weeks. During this time, he won 13 of golf’s major championships. Injuries have recently plagued and slowed down the golfer a bit, but he is still showing his prowess on the course. List of 15 Majors that Tiger Woods has clinched over his spectacular career
Woods has won an impressive 15 Major titles over the span of his career. His first win came on April 13th, 1997 after he successfully clinched the crown at the Masters. This record breaking feat also meant that he became the youngest ever golfer to win the prestigious event. 1998 seemed to be a struggle for Woods, as he faded away due to an immense change in playing style.
However, just as people thought it was over, Woods came swinging back in 1999- giving one of the best performances of his career. Woods finished the season with an impressive 8 wins- a record that had not been achieved since 1974. Of these wins also came the PGA Championship Victory- his second major win of his young career.
Tiger Woods: The comeback era
2000 was Woods’ glory year, after he became only the second golfer to win the Triple Crown of Golf just after Lee Trevino. By the end of Woods’ 2000 campaign, he had won three consecutive majors, nine PGA Tour events, and had set or tied 27 Tour records. He managed to win atleast 2 Major Championships in 2002, 2005 and 2006. His wins slowly dwindled in 2007 and 2008, as he took only one win each. As Woods tried to make a comeback in the next few years, his playing style changed immensely and he was a work in progress. Just as he was getting back in form he faced injury years from 2014 to 2017.
By 2017 Woods had undergone 4 back surgeries, which seriously limited his play for those seasons. 2018 was Tiger Woods’ comeback year, as he made a successful recovery. 2019 however, was his crowning moment, as Woods returned strong and hopeful to the Masters. His first Major Championship of the year, all pressure was on Woods. However, he delivered and won the Masters by a one shot victory- taking the 15th Major title in his life. Soon after, Woods has a horrific crash and suffered damage to his leg, which he is still trying to recover from. However, he had long before managed to seal his place as one of the greatest golfers of all times.
