“Field for the year,” LIV Golf settles on 2023 roster after latest PGA signings, will not give up on Tiger Woods
The LIV Golf Series has its final 12 teams for the year, but will not give up on signing the legendary Tiger Woods.
LIV Golf Series
The 2023 LIV Golf season has officially begun. The first event of the season took place in Mayakoba Mexico. The 12 teams were ready to hit the course, and all players excited to start their LIV Golf journeys. Charles Howell III walked away victorious with a cash prize of $4 million. With the season off the a great start, the Crushers GC are the team to beat.
It seems now that the roster for the LIV Series has been fixed, and will not change anymore for this year. The players include the likes of Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, and Cameron Smith. A few Latin American players also made the switch from the PGA Tour including Mito Pereira and Sergio Garcia.
With the DP World Tour vs LIV Golf series trial to go up any time soon, it is impossible to tell when the pot will overflow and when sparks will fly. With everyone else joining the LIV Series roster, the 12 teams that are there right now will not change anymore. “The field is the field for this year. And the 12 teams are the 12 teams,” reportedly a LIV publication said.
LIV Golf’s fresh new format is looking to attract Tiger Woods
However, one prospect that the LIV Series is not willing to give up on is the one and only Tiger Woods. But the idea that the 15-time Major champion will join the Saudi-backed series seems almost impossible. He, Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, and others seem committed to the PGA Tour.
The LIV Golf series has managed to cause its fair share of controversy since its inception. The Saudi-backed series has managed to cause a rift in the golf world. Tiger Woods has made it clear in the past as well that he will not be a part of the LIV Golf series despite the high 9 figures that they were giving him.
CEO Greg Norman has been wanting to change the face of golf ever since the beginning of the series. The new format of the series tries to bring a fresh perspective to golf. This includes new rules such as allowing shorts on the course, only 54-hole courses with no cuts, and a new team-style format.
While these changes do seem like a new and improved way of golf, many have vehemently opposed it due to the nature of the backing of the series that has been taken on. However, regardless to say, LIV Golf is here to stay, and not much can be done about it. Whether it will be successful or not is yet too soon to tell.
