The LIV Golf continues to surprise everyone. The breakaway league which has always faced the negative side of most fans, might be under the heat again. On Monday they made a stunning announcement that has once again risen some suspicions. The tour informed that the final scheduled event this year – the team championship, has been relocated to Trump Doral Golf Club from Saudi Arabia for a second year running.
According to official reports, the event was supposed to take place at the golf club in Jeddah. After this announcement, the event will now take place in the city of Miami. The rounds will be played from October 13-15 before the curtains draw on another season. The Trump National Doral Club is no stranger to LIV Golf and hosted the marquee event last year as well.
“We’re thrilled to return to the Blue Monster at Doral to celebrate a historic year and crown the 2023 LIV Golf League team champion,” CEO Greg Norman said while mentioning about the sudden change of plans. He later added how the team concept has come to life this year. He also claimed that the fans are excited and ready to experience the new team change style of play.
Much has been made about the future of LIV Golf in recent weeks. Reports of the league being closed down by the PGA Tour have emerged following the release of the framework event. However, CEO Norman and PIF governor, Yasir Al-Rumayyan assured the players that they will continue to operate business as usual in the future. This sudden decision to change the venue has left some people thinking again.
What is next on the schedule for LIV Golf after the London event?
Last weekend the LIV Golf made its grand return to London. The city holds a special place in their hearts as it was the host of their first-ever tournament. Since then the PIF-funded tour has made trips across several countries around the world. In the second event in London, Australian international Cameron Smith finished on top of the leaderboard to claim his second LIV title.
This was the ninth event of their current schedule. The league still has four more events to wrap up before the finals in Miami. Their next event will take place after the PGA’s prestigious event, the Open. LIV Golf will return to action from August 6-8 at the Greenbrier. After that, they will continue to stay in the US for the next two events in the form of LIV Bedminster and LIV Chicago.
The Royal Greens Clubs in Jeddah will host the penultimate tour between October 13-15. The inaugural team championship final was won by Dustin Johnson’s led side 4Aces GC. They are once again leading the pack and are heavy favorites to sweep the prize home. DJ also took home the prize in the individual category. It will be interesting to see who wins that prize this year.
