“Look at the bigger picture”: Martin Kaymer’s hopes for LIV Golf, PGA Tour and DP World Tour to find common ground
Martin Kaymer on LIV Golf
The recently inaugurated LIV Golf Series has caused quite the controversy in the golf world. As golfers have been making the switch from the PGA Tour, the tension between the two has been constantly increasing. Among these, several golfers have their opinions about how to deal with the split that they are currently facing.
Martin Kaymer, for example, wants the all the tours to get together and figure out what can be done to resolve the issue. The PGA Tour has not only suspended all the defectors to the LIV Series, but have now also gone ahead and fined them $100,000. The DP World Tour has announced that the defectors will be banned from all further competitions, including the Scottish Open scheduled in July. This has caused a lot of disappointment amongst the pros, especially Scottish golfers.

Heavy fine sanctions and suspension causing disappointment amongst LIV Golf Players: Martin Kaymer
“The fine is a lot of money, this is one thing, but I would be happy paying it, but I love to play golf,” Kaymer told Sky Sports. “I am happy to pay it, but I would love to play in Scotland, it’s one of the biggest tournaments on the European Tour. Unfortunately there are so many spots given to the PGA Tour that some of the guys that love to play in Scotland, especially Scottish players, are not getting in. I would love to play, I have won it before, but that’s the decision made and we need to live with it,” he added.
Kaymer went ahead and said that he supported all tours, because he believed in them their own different ways. Kaymer says all the tours should be “working together for the big picture” and hopes the split won’t affect the Ryder Cup too much. “Because that has a lot to do with emotions not only with players, but the tour and sponsors. Hopefully, everybody can sit down at the table and find a solution that is good for everybody and not bad for everybody.”
