During the third round at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am 2024, English golfer Matt Fitzpatrick found himself in deep trouble. He was seen troubled by the sand all day. Initially starting the day with a promising birdie at the par-5 2nd but then it was the third hole when the trouble started.

He took multiple shots to escape the bunker and soon realized his luck was out. It took him three shots to eventually find his way out of the sand.

This misfortune saw him post a score of 7 on the third hole and picked up a triple bogey. On the other hand, the Sky Sports commentators found the situation humorous. With this horror play by him the hopes of first win at the old Crosby Clambake takes a deep dive. Following scores of 69 and 68 in the first two rounds, his third round score rose to 76, making it more complex task for him to even get closer to the top 30.

Matt Fitzpatrick: A golfer on the rise

Becoming professional in 2014, Fitzpatrick quickly made his name. He clinched his first European Tour victory at the 2015 British Masters, becoming the youngest winner of the tournament at the time. This was just the beginning of winning titles, with victories at the 2016 DP World Tour Championship, the Omega European Masters in 2017 and 2018, and the 2023 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship a few to name.

After several near misses in the majors, he finally got his moment of joy in 2022. After a close race during the US Open event, Fitzpatrick emerged as the winner, finishing one stroke ahead of Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris to earn his first major victory.

The 2023 season was a good year for him. He secured victory at the RBC Heritage following a playoff round against Jordan Spieth. This victory eventually propelled him to a career-high ranking of seventh in the world.

Beyond his personal achievements, Fitzpatrick has also made a huge mark on the international stage. He has been a vital part of the European Ryder Cup team since 2016, contributing significantly to their success in recent years.

It now remains to be seen how he bounces back from this performance at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He is currently tied for 58th spot in the event and will be hoping to atleast get in the top 30 by the end of the tournament.
