Patrick Cantlay slams all rumors relating to a potential move to LIV Golf
Patrick Cantlay is the latest in the group of golfers linked to LIV Golf. The breakaway golf tour from PGA desperately needs more star players. They have signed some top names, such as Dustin Johnson, Lee Westwood, and Phil Mickelson. However, it seems the LIV is facing internal issues in meeting financial targets, one of which is signing top players.
When rumors about Cantlay and Xander Schauffele were going wild, American star golfers were vocal enough to shut them down. While Schauffele had slammed all the rumors related to LIV Golf in November, Cantlay took his time to respond to rumors.
LIV Golf has been in financial turmoil as it hasn’t been able to meet its targets yet. One of their primary targets still remains signing top players. Getting Schauffel and Cantlay would have been a massive boost to the league, as these two American golfing pros have a combined 15 wins on the PGA Tour.

Patrick Cantlay shuts down all rumors related to a move to LIV Golf
Patrick Cantlay is currently World Ranking 4 in the PGA Tour. He and Xander Schauffele will appear in the Sentry Tournament of Champions this week. Amidst this fantastic career progress, rumors started doing the rounds about Cantlay moving to LIV Golf.
LIV Golf is a breakaway golf league funded by the Saudi Arabia government. The PGA players view a move to LIV as a taboo with dire consequences for their careers. LIV players have faced legal repercussions such as sanctions and bans from PGA. However, LIV CEO Greg Norman has suggested that they reimburse players who had to face such consequences.
Amidst these repercussions, any top player who cares about their career would not risk a move to LIV golf. Patrick Cantlay has broken his silence after rumors went viral about his move. At Kapalua, he says, “I think it’s because I haven’t been too vocal one way or the other“.
He explains how his silence on this issue has made the rumors fodder. He further adds, “So, I think that’s probably where it is. Guys, for the most part, seem like they’re pretty polarized on this issue, and I view it as it’s been a competition for top talent, like any other business. But I have no plans to do that as of now, which has been my stance for, you know, basically since the whole time.”
As LIV battles in its quest to signing star players, Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele are preparing to give their best at the Sentry TOC this week and The American Express Championship at La Quinta, California, from January 16- to 23.
