Golfer Patrick Cantlay has faced a lot of criticism for his slow pace of play compared to other competitors. Cantlay who was taking part in the RBC Heritage was once again trolled for taking his time at the 7th hole at Harbour Town. He would later go on to make it a hole-in-one to silence his haters. The 31-year-old has been the center of attention during the PGA Tour because of his long pre-shot routine.
The multi-time PGA winner did acknowledge the heat he is getting from the fans and media around the world. He took to his social media and posted a clip of him making an ace with a caption of “Playing faster“. He was still slammed by the fans over his slow performance last week at the Masters. He and his group received criticism from other golfers for their speed.
Cantlay marked a 6-under 65 in the second round of the RBC Heritage. Apart from his hole-in-one, he made six birdies and two bogeys to add to his first-round score tally. Last year he made it all the way to the final round before losing to Jordan Spieth. The world number 4 entered the final round tied with Speith and one behind Matt Fitzpatrick. It was the Englishman who held his ground to win the whole thing.
Twitter reactions to Patrick Cantlay’s slow passage of play
Golf is a game of patience. Rushing into matters and taking quick shots could prove fatal. Cantlay is one of the few players who take a little longer than one would expect to hit the shot. Despite an ace and being tied going into the final round, fans on social media were quick to dismiss any attempts of him trying to slow things down.
Cantlay who was paired with Viktor Hovland was accused of slowing down the pace of the game. Jon Rahm and Brooks Koepka were not shy at taking jibes at the duo. “Yeah, the group ahead of us was brutally slow,” Koepka referred to them at a conference after the round. Here are some reactions which Cantlay received for his pace of play.
Judging by the looks of it, it does not look like things will be slowing down for Cantlay any time soon. He will now be seen in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans where he will be looking to defend his title which he won last year.
