Seen as the “bad boy” of golf Patrick Reed is famous for being in the news for all the wrong reasons of late. From filing a $750 million lawsuit against the golf channel and its individual employees to being accused of stealing things from the locker room – Reed has always been surrounded by negative publicity.

A 31-year-old US golfer from the DP World Tour was reportedly treated unfairly at last month’s DP World Tour event, according to reports from several outlets. However, the golfer has now accused all those stories were “false reporting.”

According to Reed during LIV golf’s press conference, he stepped away from the tournament because he “got decommitted,” but one site had reported that he withdrew after getting hurt in his back due to a poorly fitting mattress in his hotel.

“I was reading that you were a bit unhappy about some of your treatment at the French Open,” a reporter said.

“No, that was false reporting,” said Reed. “Had nothing to do with the French Open. When I went over there, the players, the fans, and the tournament treated me amazingly. It was an unbelievable time over there.”

Obviously, I wish I had played better and done something, but no, they treated me really well, and that’s just something that is unfortunate about how the media tried to spin that week because when I was over there, everyone was excited to see me. It was great there, being with the guys, being with the players, and seeing fans I’ve seen in the past. No, it was a great week based on fans, players, and the people there at the golf course,” Reed added.

Having participated in five of the six events in the controversial league, the Texan native continues to play on the DP World tour with LIV golfers still waiting to be recognised by OWGR for the ranking points.

“It’s a slap in the face not to invite me to do a press conference here, or as happened in Wentworth, not to have me play the pro-am and all those things,” Reed told Journal du Golf, according to the Telegraph.

“At the end of the day, it’s just my golf that I have control over. I’m here to support the Tour, France and all the people who are here. But I don’t see why we can’t move from the LIV to the European Tour like we usually move from the PGA Tour to the European Tour. A lot of players understand and support my choice and have nothing against me. I didn’t feel any animosity against me from them.”
