LIV Golf has caused its fair share of controversy over the last few months since its inception, especially as the Saudi backed series is causing a threat to the PGA Tour. The LIV Series has seen a lot of defectors, with big names like Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Smith deciding the that PGA was no more for them.

However, the PGA has hit back equally, sanctioning and suspending the players from any further games. In retaliation the LIV series has decided to file a lawsuit against the PGA, claiming that it went against the spirit of golfers being independent contractors. The first TRO did get dismissed, but the date for the trial is set in January 2024.

In a recent blow to the LIV Series, the PGA Tour announced that any member of the Saudi backed series will be ineligible for a renewal of their PGA membership for the 2022-23 season. This certainly comes as a problem for some golfers, who want to play some tournaments of the PGA.

According to Reuters, a letter was sent on Thursday to 22 players who had yet to resign from the PGA Tour. It said that their LIV contracts prevent them from meeting membership requirements for the 2022-23 season that begins in two weeks. Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau and world no. 2 Cameron Smith were just some of the few golfers who have not yet resigned from the tour.

Dustin Johnson and Sergio Garcia are among the players who did resign their PGA Tour membership after making the move to LIV Golf. LIV managed to offer large sums of money for the golfers making the switch, as the staggering amount is something that the PGA Golfers could only think of.
