“Let it go dude”: Phil Mickelson expresses annoyance after repeated LIV Golf and Champions dinner questions at 150th Open

The 150th Open Championship has got off to a cracking start, as some of the greats of golf and new upcoming talent get together to play 3 for 3 intense and exciting days. While several golfers are enjoying and in contention for a great finish, the same cannot be said for Phil Mickelson. The veteran was in for a bout of annoyance after his first round during the conference.
Mickelson shot a respectable even-par 72 on Thursday, but the focus of his conference seemed to be the Champions dinner. Mickelson was invited by the R&A to the annual Champions Dinner, they would rather he not come because of the recent LIV Golf controversy. Mickelson also thought it right not to attend, saying, “I just didn’t want to make a big deal about it, so I said fine. We both kind of agreed that it would be best if I didn’t.”

Phil Mickelson reaches limits of patience as LIV Golf questions continue to pester him
The first question however was not the end of his misery. He was asked three follow up questions, with the first one being whether it took away from his time and whether he was enjoying his time there. “No. I love being here. Everybody here loves golf, and we find this place to be very spiritual. As great as this game has been to me, to be able to come here to the Home [of Golf] and compete again — I think this is my sixth one here,” replied Phil to Golf.com.
Then he was asked whether he felt bad that he was in such a position now. Phil quipped saying, “No. No, not at all. I think that I couldn’t be more excited and ecstatic with where I’m at. I love the events. I get to have golf in my life and competitive golf in my life on a scale that is fun, exciting, different, and lets me play and compete but still do the things outside that I want to do.”
By this time the irritation seemed to have gotten to Mickelson, and rightly so, as another reporter decided to ask him the same type of question. “Even missing out on an occasion like the past champions dinner with the 150th …” the reporter began. However, Mickelson seemed to have had enough. “Let it go, dude. Let it go,” Mickelson said. “That’s three times you’ve asked the same question. I don’t know what to tell you. I couldn’t be happier.” Mickelson seems to be happy with his decision, and will remain so regardless of whoever questions him.
