The LIV Golf Series has caused a fair share of drama since its inception. Led by Greg Norman, Phil Mickelson was one of the first golfers to make the switch to the new Saudi backed series, receiving a lot of backlash to say the least. A whole lot of drama has gone down since then, with suspensions, sanctions and lawsuits being filed left, right and centre.

Amidst all this never ending controversy, the golfers seemed to have slowed down a bit and taken a step back into reconsideration. However, the PGA Tour has now come up with an all new ‘tour within a tour’. The Elevated Events, lead by Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods, will see the elite golfers of the world get together to play 20 events- 12 elevated events, 4 Majors, Players Championship and any other PGA Tournaments of their choice.

Phil Mickelson recently spoke out about the new tour, and he had some interesting opinions. “Well, they are getting a lot for it. So I’m extremely happy that the top players are being listened to and that their input is being valued. And that those events are coming about,’’ said Mickelson in an interview with Sports Illustrated.

“I really don’t know what to say about the PGA Tour and their direction and what they should or should not be doing. My commitment now is with LIV. We’ve made some major disruption to the sport of golf,” Phil Mickelson said. He reiterated that the game of LIV is just getting started with more innovations on the way.

“I think a lot of my conversations with (former PGA Tour commissioner Tim) Finchem going back 15, 18 years even up to a year ago (with commissioner Jay Monahan) are pretty well documented. So I probably don’t need to go into every detail. But it’s interesting some of the similarities,’’ said Mickelson, as the new series has a strong field for the 4th event in Boston.
