The LIV Golf series has caused quite the controversy in the golfing world, and it has not stopped creating attention since its inception. Recently, Phil Mickelson caused a scene, as he recorded a LIV Golf promotional video in gorilla refuge in Rwanda while wearing a black mask. Mickelson was one of the first to leave the PGA Tour and join the controversial Saudi backed LIV Tour.

The promotional video introduced LIV’s newest announcer, David Feherty. LIV Golf players Bryson DeChambeau, Graeme McDowell, Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood and Kevin Na did that, while pretending to announce a new golfer to join the series. However, it turned out to be a surprise as they announced their latest broadcaster Feherty instead. Mickelson’s part of the video was quite a surprise.

Mickelson was in the middle of a forest, with what looked to be four gorillas. He was wearing a black mask likely due to covid precautions. After being frustrated over not making the Open cut, Mickelson went to Africa. He was asked to send over a video, he said was in Rwanda, he recorded it anyway, and LIV included it.

“Hey, David. It’s Phil here under this mask, in Rwanda hanging with the gorillas,” Phil Mickelson said in the video to golf.com. “Just wanted to welcome you to LIV.” One of the quirkier of the lot, the video has certainly caught a lot of attention from the general public.
