The 2024 PGA Tour’s biggest non-major event has finally ended with Scottie Scheffler clinching the crown for two consecutive years. His back-to-back victory at TPC Sawgrass was exceptional, as he made his comeback win following a neck injury.
He narrowly edged the top golfers Xander Schauffele, Brian Harman, and Wyndham Clark to grab his 2nd title. The Players Championship, often considered as the 5th unofficial major, projected a $25 million grand prize purse for the 2024 event. The winner, Scottie Scheffler earned a huge sum of $4.5 million, adding it to his $4 million winner’s check from the Arnold Palmer Invitational victory.
So far in the season, the World No.1 has won $8.5 million just from two events; the majors are yet to start. Following its name as one of the biggest PGA Tour events, the Players Championship boasted the highest payday stakes this year. Apart from Scheffler, the top five winners earned more than $1 million.
The rest of the top 13 got approximately $500,000 and more, and the top 35 finishes ended up getting at least six-figure capital. Scheffler, who is expected to have a net worth of $50 million as of 2024, seems to be adding fame and victories to his name.

Scottie Scheffler stunned the crowd at TPC Sawgrass with his miraculous comeback victory. He not only overcame physical hurdles but also successfully maintained his top spot through consecutive wins. Scheffler revealed that he almost quit during the second round after injuring his neck.
However, he successfully overcame the challenges to win the $4.5 million prize purse. Harman, Schauffele, and Clark tied for second, winning approximately $1.8 million in the process. Matt Fitzpatrick also joined the $1 million club, although Si Woo Kim, Hideki Matsuyama, and the rest of the top golfers earned nearly $800,000.
Scheffler surpassed legendary golfers like Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, and Fred Couples in the event’s 50 years of celebration. It was the first time in PGA history that a golfer won the event back-to-back. He said he felt “pretty special” after winning the tournament and guarding his top seat.
