Mark Hubbard, a tour professional aged 33, has been playing since 2014 on both the PGA Tour and the Korn Ferry Tour. Despite the fact that he has yet to win on the PGA Tour, he has five career top-10 finishes, including two this year.

Week-to-week consistency provides him a unique insight into the state of the game today, particularly in regards to what the introduction of LIV Golf has meant for the pros who aren’t yet household names. Hubbard explained to hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz why he believes LIV will eventually be detrimental to golf on this week’s episode of Subpar.

“It’s hard. Anyone who decides to travel somewhere for $125 million is not to fault”, he said. “But I don’t believe it’s great for golf. And since there were many things about the PGA Tour that irritated me, I would say that my opinion has evolved. You see, I was in this mindset before I actually gave it any attention, thinking things like, “Oh, competition is nice,” and similar things. However, it’s not truly a race. because we are unable to compete with a foreign autocrat who controls vast sums of money. We are unable to compete. In reality, it only dilutes things.”

Hubbard disagreed with the notion that LIV Golf’s innovative format is a catalyst for the expansion of the sport. “This pretence that the game is expanding and we’re doing all these things. Even the player interviews, in my opinion, are just bulls”, said Hubbard.
“Oh, we want to stay a while longer. So why are you still trying to play on the PGA Tour if that’s the case? Because you want to play another 10 events after playing 14, 15, with them? You are now playing the same quantity. Just say that you went there to get the cash”, he added.

“And all this information on game expansion. While the PGA Tour frequently makes mistakes, they excel in expanding the sport. We have three overseas tours planned, including ones for development with China, Latin America, and Canada. We destroy every community we enter with generosity. Compared to the other three or four main sports combined, we donate more to charity.”
Hubbard stated that compared to what he has observed so far with LIV, he is far more satisfied with the PGA Tour’s attempts to develop that game.
According to Hubbard, “I’ve probably seen a thousand kids out here from the First Tee and all these different organisations.” There’s no way that tour, which features 50 extremely wealthy players in a 54-hole competition, is improving the game. They are those who have reached the pinnacle of their careers and have already amassed their wealth. That doesn’t advance the game. The Tour already performs admirably. Hubbard said that he did enjoy one feature of LIV Golf’s setup.
In conclusion, he said, “Team golf is a fantastic notion and a lot of it is cool, but like, in terms of the big picture, what’s best for the entire game of golf, I’m quite anxious about the future.”
