On Thursday, history was written at the French Open as former DP World Tour winner Rasmus Hojgaard wrote his name in the history books after scoring a 72-foot birdie putt on his way to shooting a 9-under 62.

“Today was very good,” Hojgaard said. “To be fair, I don’t feel like I was that good off the tee but my approach play was very good, alongside a very good putter. I holed a few long putts out there but you have to do that to shoot nine under.”

Because of this stunning show, Hojgaard sits on the top of the list after Day 1 as he has taken the two-shot lead over Sweden Alexander Bjork. Paul Barjon sits at third.

The 21-year-old golfer is also touted as one of the favorites to be part of Luke Donald’s European team for Ryder Cup 2023 which will take place in Rome.

When asked about the same whether Ryder Cup is back of his mind or not – Hojgaard said that he gives his best every time he takes the field and Ryder Cup is not on his mind at all.

“No, it’s not something I think of when I am playing,” he said of that possibility. “It is obviously something everybody is talking about off the golf course, but I just tried today to go out and play as good as I could.

“I feel like I have been playing decent the last few weeks, just made too many mistakes. My goal this week was to limit the mistakes out there.”
