Rory Mcilory has now defended the PIF and hopes to see them get a chance to take part in golf which could further lessen the chances of a LIV takeover.

As the world of golf starts preparing itself for the Ryder Cup, the future of the sport is still hanging in the balance. The reason for this has been the major development regarding the sudden merger talks between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf. Several stars including Rory McIlroy had previously called out the breakaway tour. However, Mcilory now seems to be willing to give them a chance.
The LIV Golf is backed by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia. As per the framework agreement, the PGA and PIF will work together going forward. The Northern Irishman had previously called them out for their usage of money. He now believes that the threat of LIV will be neutralized if PIF is actually serious about the merger.
After the merger was announced, McIlroy claimed that he still hated LIV and hoped it went away. He recently joined the Golf Weekly Podcast while appearing at the Irish Open. During this conversation, he said “I’ve met the guys involved in PIF. I’ve sat with Yasir. I’ve talked to him, I’ve lived in Dubai, the people there are some of my closest friends, have the same beliefs as some of these people we are criticizing.”
“If we provide them a pathway where they’re not taking over the sport, it neutralizes the threat of LIV becoming something that it hopefully shouldn’t become,” Mcilory further added. This statement by Mcilory on PIF though has not been well received by some fans.

Twitter reacts to Rory McIlroy’s recent comments on PIF
The PIF and LIV Golf have been slammed on numerous outings by golf fans, players, and experts. The breakaway tour is yet to make them a hero in the eyes of many, who follow this sport religiously. Following the talks of the merger, the hatred for them has doubled down as they are being accused of trying to take over the PGA and golf.
Rory McIlroy had previously attacked them. He now wants to give them a chance to represent golf in a proper format. He would reference how the Saudis have influenced other sports while not taking over them entirely. Twitter (now called X) though was in no mood to listen to the 34-year-old golfer. One user would write “will this guy ever stop yapping?” while directing their anger. Here are some reactions to the matter.
Whether will go through in the first place also remains to be seen. While Commissioner Jay Monahan has expressed his confidence in the deal getting finalized, there has been some delay in the past few weeks. One reason for this has been the appearance of top bosses Greg Norman, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, and Monahan before the US Senate. They have threatened them the deal might fail if they do not testify before them.
