Four-time major champion Rory McIlroy continues to find his name pop up in internet searches. The North Irish golfer is popular for giving some stunning views on golf. He has done just that once again and even gave a befitting reply to a reporter when asked why he does that.
The 34-year-old golfer, participating at the Arnold Palmer Invitational was recently asked what changes he would like to bring to the PGA Tour if he was in charge. McIlroy claimed that he would like the PGA Tour to become more “cutthroat” and offer fewer playing spots in the future.
During Saturday’s press conference a reporter would ask him a surprising question while saying, “Why do you always speak your mind?” seemingly referencing his straight-forward replies. McIlroy appeared stunned for a moment but collected himself and gave an epic response.
Why wouldn't I speak my mind, I guess. You asked me my opinion and I give it to you. I'm not going to stand up here and lie to you.Rory McIlroy on why he speaks his mind.
This is though not the first time McIlroy was asked about his views on the PGA Tour and what he will like to change. Recently, the golfer envisioned a World Tour like the UEFA Champions League where top players from all the world would compete under one tour.
Wyndham Clark extends support to Rory McIlroy’s ‘cutthroat’ idea
Rory McIlroy’s ‘cutthroat‘ idea of the PGA Tour events has become a major talking point in golf at the moment. Whether it will come to live or not remains to be seen, but it already has the support of Wyndham Clark.
The 30-year-old golfer is himself currently trending for an unwanted reason. During the 18th hole at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, he was accused of cheating by shifting the ball. However, he has kept this aside and has agreed with the plan of McIlroy.
Speaking on this matter at the Arnold Palmer Invitational press conference Clark said:
I think it would be amazing if our Tour was a hundred guys, and we have 20 guys who get relegated, every time, every year, no matter who you are… So yeah I’m probably with Rory on that.

Both Clark and McIlroy will enter the field on Sunday hoping for a strong performance and trying to make a memorable comeback. While Clark is currently one shot behind co-leaders Scottie Scheffler and Shane Lowry, McIlroy is tied for eight with Sam Burns and Max Homa, three strokes behind the 2023 U.S Open winner.
