Rory McIlroy’s inconsistent performance since last year has made his former agent Andrew ‘Chubby’ Chandler feel he’s not interested in the sport anymore. Chandler boldly claims that he feels McIlroy is “disinterested” and has fruitlessly sacrificed a year without any Majors win.
He compared GOAT Tiger Woods, and golf legend Jack Nicklaus stating they would never have “sacrificed a year of their careers like he did.” He feels the World No.1 is “finding it hard to get back up again” following last year’s slump. McIlroy’s inconsistency was also visible in the recent Players Championship and the earlier event, the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Chandler pointed out his round two performance at the TPC event ended on one-over 73. Nevertheless, his day 1 and day 3 play were considerably better as he wrapped up the event with 10 birdies on round 65 and 3 birdies, carding 69. He finished 21st at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, adding further mixed reactions from golf fans and pundits. Chandler noted,
There is no spark in his eyes, no twinkle.Andrew ‘Chubby’ Chandler as per Conor O’Donoghue of Irish Post.
Andrew ‘Chubby’ Chandler believes money played a factor in Rory McIlroy’s inconsistent performances

He believes that since McIlroy has a hefty bank balance, he has lost his interest in trying hard to play and win an event. Currently, McIlroy’s net worth is $255 million as per reports. Chandler added,
He and Tiger have billions, and the rest haven’t. I can’t imagine having billion dollars and playing as hard as he does.Andrew ‘Chubby’ Chandler as per Conor O’Donoghue of Irish Post.
Chandler believes McIlroy “is finding the game a grind” as he wasn’t there for the PGA National or Arnold Palmer event. He even slammed the World No.2’s ‘Full Swing’ appearance stating how he watched the series yet did not find what was causing his slump.
The $25 million unofficial PGA Tour event has ended with Scottie Scheffler winning the title. It’ll be interesting to see how Rory McIlroy performs in the rest four majors given his current state of golf. The Irish player has nearly gone a decade without winning a major championship, and 2024 could prove to be his stepping stone.
