A few days after announcing his resignation from the PGA Tour policy board, Rory McIlroy has now revealed the reason for it.

A major development this week in golf saw Rory McIlroy resign from his post as the PGA Tour policy board member. The North Irish golfer was one of the six player-directors along with newly joined Tiger Woods and Patrick Cantlay on this board. He has now revealed the reason why he stepped down from this huge position.

As the sport continues to try and work out a framework agreement with the PIF of Saudi Arabia, McIlroy has been doing a lot of work. The four-time major champion has appeared in several tours and is gearing up for the TGL. All of this along with his own personal life, was too much for the golfer and thus he decided to quit.

The workload this position carries was something even Jon Rahm agreed to. The Spaniard was asked about the chances of him succeeding McIlroy as the new member. Rahm would turn down the chance and claim he cannot sit in a meeting for six to seven hours.

The sport of golf has several unique rules to it’s game. One of the most important ones is that the player has to hit the ball from where it landed. If a player moves the move, they will be penalized. This rule also applies when the ball somehow lands on the lap of a spectator. This awkward moment happened with Rory McIlroy as his shot surprisingly landed on the lap of a spectator.

During the final event of the DP World Tour in Dubai, his shot at the 13th hole flew across and landed outside the greens. It was already a tough shot, to begin with. However, things got comical when he found his golf ball on the lap of a woman sitting on the grass.

The development saw McIlroy burst into laughter as he tried to come to terms with what had happened. He even playfully tried to hit the shot with the ball still resting on her lap. A few moments later, an official arrived at the scene and tried to make things work out. The North Irishman would take the ball from the fan as she marked the spot where the ball would have landed. He would then hit the shot on the greens.

Speaking of the tournament, he is currently in a tied-12 spot after the first round of the DP World Tour Championship. With his win for the Race to Dubai already sealed, it is likely that he might not go all out to grab the win in this event.
