“I think life is about choices” – Rory McIlroy shifts stance on LIV Golf, admits changing his ‘tune’ towards Saudi-funded tour
Rory McIlroy has once again shifted his stance on LIV Golf and has now claimed that golfers should not be punished for coming back to PGA Tour.

In a shocking twist in golf, Rory McIlroy, the renowned golfer from North Ireland has now further changed his stance on LIV Golf. At the start of the year, McIlroy admitted he was a bit judgmental towards them. He has now claimed that golfers should not be punished if they want to return to the PGA Tour.
Several big names of the golfing industry jumped ships and joined LIV Golf in 2022. However many are struggling to make a mark on the 54-hole circuit including Abraham Lancer. The former PGA Tour member recently opened up about the struggles on the LIV Tour. This led to many wondering whether some LIV Golfers will go back to the PGA Tour.
Following the announcement of the golf merger in June 2023, McIlroy pointed out that the golf defectors should be fined and punished severally. He now seems to have soften his stance once again and is now open to welcoming back those who left the PGA Tour.
The 34-year-old started off by saying that life is about choices and some people made their choice to switch to LIV Golf. He further claimed that he has changed his tune and wants to see the game of golf moving forward together.
I think life is about choices. Guys made choices to go and play LIV, guys made choices to stay here. If people still have eligibility on this tour and they want to come back and they want to come back and play or you want to try and do something, let them come back... Rory McIlroy claims he is not going to stand in Tyrrell Hatton’s way following his switch to LIV Golf
As Rory McIlroy prepares to appear at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, he was asked about the development regarding his Ryder Cup teammate Tyrrell Hatton. The Englishman is the latest marquee name to join LIV Golf and is now part of Jon Rahm‘s team.
McIlroy has now backed Hatton and claimed he will not be standing in anyone’s way and informed he understood where his fellow European comes from.

This words from McIlroy have once again stirred up huge debates on social media. With the two tours currently in discussion over a merger deal, the North Irishman appears to willing to support this deal and hopes the game of golf can come back together soon.
Other reports have suggested that the PGA Tour has reached a deal over $3 billion with Strategic Sports Group. Commissioner Jay Monahan is expected to speak with the three tours in the coming days and inform them about the details. McIlroy just like other golfers would be hoping for a positive update from the top boss.
