Rory McIlroy, the four-time major champion has once again found himself being the center of attention. This time though it does not come from his own previous comments, but rather than a bold claim by one LIV Golf member, Talor Gooch.

The American International is one of the big names from the breakaway tour who will miss the Masters this year. While being upset about this, he went to claim that should McIlroy win the first major of the year and go on to complete the grand slam, it should have an asterisk mark against it.

Now McIlroy has responded to this words of Gooch. As the North Irish golfer prepared for the Cognizant Classic, he was asked his thoughts on this statement. The 34-year-old gave him the “benefit of the doubt” and shrugged off his controversial remarks.

The asterisk, look, the Masters is an Invitational and they'll invite whoever they think warrants an invite. I think to be fair to Talor, if you read the entire—the question and then the answer, it's not as if he just came out with that. I feel like whoever did the interview led him down that path to say that, so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt there a little bit. He just agreed with what the interviewer asked.

Rory McIlroy responds to LIV Golf rumors after former agent’s wild suggestion

After Rory McIlroy gave a befitting reply to the “asterisk” comment of Talor Gooch, he was asked about the ongoing rumors regarding him going to LIV Golf. The golfer has now responded to this talks as well.

At the start of the year McIlroy stunned the world when he made a shocking turn on his stance regarding LIV Golf. A hard critic at one point had suddenly started to praise the PIF-funded tour.

This led to his former agent Andrew “Chubby” Chandler claiming there was a ten percent chance that McIlroy ditches PGA Tour to join LIV Golf for $750 million deal. Responding to this, the former World No. 1 informed he meet him earlier this year in the Middle East and said “who knows“, regarding his rumored move.

At the current moment, it is highly unlikely that he joins LIV Golf. With his PGA Tour and DP World Tour schedule already packed and the 54-hole circuit getting ready for their third event in Jeddah, it is safe to assume that McIlroy will be continuing with the tour, for now.
