“All thanks to LIV Golf”: Olympic Medallist Rory Sabbatini will get a full time PGA Tour Card- one that would have lost if not for the Saudi series
Bubba Watson, Rory Sabbatini and LIV Golf
Rory Sabbatini is getting a golden opportunity, and so are five other Pros- all thanks to the LIV Golf Series. Sabbatini will be getting a full time PGA Tour card next year, while pros Anthony Quayle, Chris Naegel, Rick Lamb, Matti Schmid and Jonas Blixt will now have a shot at getting one too. They must thank the Saudi backed series for this opportunity- for a series of resignations has made this possible.
Sabbatini is the Tokyo Olympic silver medallist and 6 time PGA Tour winner. Sabbatini received the Tour card after the PGA decided that it was time to remove any and all golfers that had taken part in the LIV Golf Series since its inception earlier this year. Along with this Bubba Watson announced his resignation from the Series by himself, which helped Sabbatini even further.
Here is the math behind how Sabbatini got a full time PGA Tour Card- and how LIV Golf helped
Sabbatini failed to keep his full time card last year. The Olympic silver medallist was No. 29 in career money and he had to use his one time top-50 exemption cards. However he made only $628,000 this year and also finished out of the top 125 in the FedEx Cup- which meant that he was unable to keep a full card.
However, with the removal of LIV golfers Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson, Charles Howell III, Brooks Koepka and Paul Casey, Rory Sabbatini moves into the top 25 once again. This allows him to unlock another exemption card that he can use for the full year.
The math is even more confusing in other matters, but Bubba Watson’s resignation from the PGA Tourchanges the threshold of points required for players to qualify for the Korn Ferry Tour Finals. That creates room for Anthony Quayle, Chris Naegel, Rick Lamb and Mattias Schmid to try to earn cards later this month.
