As the 50th edition of The Players Championship draws closer, several golfers on Tuesday took part in media duties. One golfer who headlined this was the defending champion and current World No.1 Scottie Scheffler. During this conference, he blasted the LIV Golfers for the current ‘splintering‘ in golf.
Scottie Scheffler was asked about what he thinks the fans feel regarding the current state of golf. The 2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational winner would go on to hit out the golf defectors and blame them for what is happening right now.

Speaking at the conference, the 27-year-old claimed they had a tour and that they were together. He later pointed out how some golfers left which created this situation.
If guys want to go, take the money and leave, then, that's their decision... I'm not going to sit here and force guys to stay on our tour... If the fans are upset, then look at the guys that left. We had a TOUR, we were all together and the people that left are no longer here. At the end of the day, that's where the splintering comes from.Scottie Scheffler on LIV Golfers.
Recently Scheffler also joined his other PGA Tour peers including Justin Thomas to oppose the views of Rory McIlroy. As the North Irishman expressed his desire to see LIV golfers to return to PGA Tour without any penalties both Thomas and Scheffler refused it and urged there should be some action against them.
Speaking of LIV Golfers, several major champions will be missing this marquee event. Spaniard Jon Rahm would have one of the favorites but since his move to the 54-hole circuit, he has been suspended by them. Other golfers who could have made their mark here were Brooks Koepka, Cameron Smith and Tyrrell Hatton.
Scottie Scheffler wants a dominating figure in golf
While Scottie Scheffler continues to stand on top of world rankings, he wants to see a dominating figure in golf. In the past several golfers have stayed on top but very few have matched the longevity of Tiger Woods and dominated the sport like him.

The 48-year-old golf great remained on top of the rankings for a total of 683 weeks, a record that might never been broken. The performances from Woods attracted a lot of viewers in the past and helped it in making golf a popular sport and inspired several current stars. Scheffler now thinks that the world of golf would benefit if someone becomes as dominant as Woods.
Nobody’s really been able to have the longevity that Tiger had… I think it would be good for the game [if someone dominated]. We’ll see what happens with the sport in the next few years.

Apart from this, the 2022 Masters Champion praised the play style of Woods. He would even recall the time when the 15-time major champion hit a 10 at The Masters and then followed it up with five birdies on the last six holes.
One question that arises now is, could Scheffler himself become this figure he spoke about? While the American golfer did struggle with his putting recently, he put a dominating performance at the recent API, showcasing his skills once again and proved why he is indeed the World No. 1 golfer. Only time will though unveil the answer to this huge question.
