“He was like a savant”: Scottie Scheffler’s coach showers praises on young golfer
Scottie Scheffler
Scottie Scheffler’s coach John Fields has been showering praise on the golfer, especially on his competitiveness and the immense drive he has to win. Fields said that the competitiveness inside him is like an extra gene in him.
Due to this at times he would sometimes lose his temper at college competitions, getting the best of him from time to time. There were rumours that at one time Scheffler slammed his clubs. “Our second week, we got together outside the course and played paddle tennis together, and it was like, ‘Wow, this guy wants to just crush people at everything he competes against, anyone he faces,’” said Fields to tennisworldusa.com.
Scottie Scheffler extremely talented as a child, says coach Randy Smith
Scottie Scheffler’s current coach Randy Smith, noticed the golfer’s talent at the very young age. It was clear that Scheffler had something different in him. “When he was six-and-a-half years old, he didn’t do what other kids at that age did. He could do things with the golf ball that were just natural little things that he would create.”
Even the very first time he played golf, Smith said that it was like watching a savant. He would hit every single shot on target, leaving his coach amazed. “It was very gratifying to sit there and watch him do it at Augusta. It was really cool to see that jacket go on him because I’ve seen that in some dreams” said Smith. Now Scheffler’s performance has been showing his grit, as the pro golfer won the prestigious 2022 Masters.
