The LIV Golf vs. PGA Tour feud not only divided the sport and fanbase but also precious relationships among star players. One of the pair is Sergio Garcia and Rory McIlroy. Their friendship has been one of the most celebrated ones in golf and both were very close until the Saudi league ripped them apart.
Following Garcia’s choice to spilt from PGA, the golf star’s relationship turned sour. Rory who is one of the most vocal participants in the two leagues war couldn’t shake hands with his friend. Their relationship strained further, ultimately putting an end to it last summer.
During Garcia’s wedding, Rory was one of the groomsmen. Both attended and played important parts in each other’s life. Unfortunately, LIV who is celebrating its 2nd season at Mayakoba in Mexico has been the root of many problems according to Rory and Tiger Woods. Both players have been relentless in their fight against the rebel league.

Sergio Garcia talks about his fractured relationship with Rory McIlroy
Recently in an interview with The Telegraph, Sergio Garcia took a look back at the 2022 summer when things started to turn sour with Rory McIlroy. He said, “I think it is very sad”.
“I think that we’ve done so many things together and had so many experiences that for him to throw that away just because I decided to go to a different tour, well, it doesn’t seem very mature; lacking maturity, really.”
“But Rory’s got his own life, and he makes his own choices, the same way that I make mine. I respect his choices, but it seems like he doesn’t respect the ones I make.” It was during last year May when Sergio Garcia talked about splitting from PGA with Rory at Well Fargo Championship.
Their talk didn’t end up on a good note as on US Open Garcia texted McIlroy, “basically telling me to shut up about LIV, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.” “I was pretty offended and sent him back a couple of daggers and that was it”.
Following their heated exchange, Rory McIlroy declared that he won’t shake hands with Garcia nor has any interest in rekindling their friendship during the European Ryder Cup coming September. Garcia furthermore took shots at Tiger Woods and Rory after they spoke about how Greg Norman’s influence is making things worse.
According to the two PGA stars, until Greg leaves LIV, there is no way the two leagues can sit together for an agreement. To this statement, Garcia replied, “They say that Greg Norman has to go; and Monahan has to stay or go?”.
“It’s very easy to say those on the other side have to go. And those on your side? There are also people who have done things wrong,” according to NY Post. As for Garcia, he has no issues with them talking things over and taking digs at each other again.
On Thursday he said, “I don’t have a problem with him. He’s the one that has a problem”. “So if he wants to reconcile, then I’m willing to talk, but I’m not sure he’ll pull himself down to that level.” They both will take on the greens at The Masters in April.
