On Sunday, Talor Gooch wrote his name in history as became the first golfer to win two successive LIV Golf titles. He did so by beating Sergio Garcia via play-off at the LIV Singapore tournament. This impressive victory came after he took the first prize home, a week ago in the LIV Adelaide tournament.
Both competitors went neck-to-neck without giving their opponent a moment to breathe. The duo finished at 17-under 196 which enforced the play-off round. In the play-off round, the American was able to easily put away his birdie. Meanwhile, his Spanish counterpart failed to make the shot which ended the contest and gave the win to Gooch.
With this victory Gooch took home the $4 million prize pool while Garcia has to settle for the runner-up spot. As per data, this is the ninth time Gooch has either led or shared a lead after a LIV round. This is the most by any player in the short history of LIV. “It’s one of those days that I’ll remember,” a triumphant Gooch said afterward.

The start of play of the final round on Sunday was slowed down for more than an hour because of harsh weather conditions. Garcia began the round by rounding off three birdies in his first nine holes. This ensured that he kept the lead with Gooch. The American golfer on the other hand made a bogie and four birdies before going for nine straight par.
This was not the first time Garcia was competing in the Singapore Open though. In 2018, he won the whole thing. He started off this tournament in a strong style as well. He lost the plot midway through.
He had managed to play bogey-free golf at the first 47 holes. However, two bogeys at the par-4 in the 12th and then in the 15th derailed his momentum which eventually cost him the tournament. Here are some reactions to Talor Gooch winning the whole thing.
The 31-year-old has now made $8 million through winning thanks to his victory at the LIV Adelaide tournament. He was also part of RangeGoats, who won the team tournament. Led by Bubba Watson, their team finished three strokes in front of Garcia’s team Fireballs. The RangeGoats took home the $3 million first prize as Garcia had to settle for second place again.
Up next for LIV is the LIV Valderrama event will take place from June 30 to July 2 at Valderrama in Spain. This course hosted the Ryder Cup in 1997 and is a famous site for important DP World tours and other major golfing tournaments.
