The golfing rivalry between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson is regarded as one of the finest ever seen. The two veterans have enjoyed success on several occasions while going up against each other. While they shared a friendly rivalry before, this relationship has now turned sour following the establishment of LIV Golf. Further proof of their damaged relationship has now been mentioned in the new book by Alan Shipnuck, where he claimed that Woods had blocked Mickelson’s entry during at the 2022 Open Championship dinner.

The new book titled “LIV and Let Die,” has seen some of its excerpts being released. Woods, 48, has been highly skeptical of LIV Golf. He would turn down a mega $800 million deal to play for them. The 15-time major champion later berated Mickelson and LIV CEO Greg Norman. He is now reported to have spoken with the past champions and convinced them to block the entry of his rival.

The 2022 British Open was taking place just after LIV Golf had launched its first event in June. Mickelson, a former winner along with others was en route to a champion’s dinner. With the tensions already high between the two tours, Woods decided to step up himself and make sure the six-time major champion learned a lesson.

He talked to a handful of other past champions to get their blessing and then went to the R&A and told them, basically, no wanted Phil there and it would make the night weird and awkward,” says one of the men at dinner according to the Fire Pit Collective.

What was Phil Mickelson’s reaction to this snub?

Phil Mickelson himself is no stranger to controversy. The veteran golfer has time and again found himself in some sort of trouble mostly regarding his gambling issues. He recently came under huge backlash as his gambling secrets were exposed.

His move to LIV Golf has also been one of the talking points as he was one of the big names to jump ships. Following his snub from the British Open Champions dinner, he claimed that the R&A had already advised him not to participate in activities with the past champions.

The R&A contacted me a couple of weeks before and said, ‘Look, we don’t think it’s a great idea you go, but if you want to, you can,” the 45-time PGA Tour winner said. He later claimed that he did not want to make the situation worse and so agreed with their suggestion.

How will the relationship between Woods and Mickelson get better, only time will tell. The merger of golf could play a part in it as the future of the sport remains unclear.
