In what came out as a shock move to some golf enthusiasts, Tiger Woods‘ long-time companion, Pawan Munjal, Hero MotoCorp CEO was spotted making an appearance with Phil Mickelson. The Indian businessman was reported to have played alongside the Lefty in the LIV London pro-am.
Munjal is someone who knows all too much about golf. On various occasions, he has been seen side to side with Woods while hosting the PGA Tour’s Hero World challenge event. Munjal’s company serves as the lead sponsor for the tournament that takes place every year in the Bahamas.
The reason this move comes as a surprise to many is due to the previous actions by Hero on LIV. The company decided not to be a part of them when the Saudi-backed tour was established. However, the shocking merger between the PGA and the PIF (Public Investment Fund) could be a reason for this development. The company already has ties with the two other tours, and with changes expected to occur in the future, a partnership with LIV Golf could not be far away.
Cameron Smith tops LIV London leaderboard after impressive round one performance
While speculations around the future of golf remain intact, the sport continues to deliver entertainment to the fans. Much has been said about the “potential end” of LIV Golf in recent weeks. The Saudi-funded tour though is back to where it all kicked off from them and are making their presence felt in London.
The ninth event on the 2023 schedule, LIV London is regarded as one of the most prestigious events in the tour’s short history. Speaking of the tournament, Australian Cameron Smith currently leads the leaderboard after the conclusion of the first round.
He carded eight birdies in the opening round. His fellow Aussie compatriot Marc Leishman made a bogey on the third hole. This is the difference that is separating the two on top of the standings.
“It was just really good,” Smith said after finishing the round. He did mention how it got mixed up at the end but was overall happy with his performance. Prior to the tournament, the LIV star had some strong words for Sir Nick Faldo in relation to the future of his current tour.
Faldo in his previous comments had claimed that the LIV will no longer continue to function once the merge deal goes through. Hitting right back at him, Smith claimed that the tour is not going away any time soon.
