The 150th Open Championship at St. Andrews on the Old Course is off to a cracking start. As a historic tee off started yesterday, the audience was in for a treat and a tight competition. However, the same could not be said for veteran Tiger Woods– for whom the course is near and dear to the heart. It might be the last time he was playing at the course but the first round seemed not to do justice to that.

“It feels like I didn’t really hit it that bad. I did have bad speed on the greens, yes,” Woods told Sports Inquirer. “But I ended up in bad spots. Or just had some weird things happen. And that’s just the way it goes.” Woods is tied for 145th place in the 156-man field, finishing with a 6-over-par 78.

Fans were not particularly impressed and thought that it was possibly times for Woods to hang his shoes at the PGA and maybe take his place in the senior series going forward. Some however still pose the hope that he might improve, however that is becoming seemingly more unlikely after every hole.

It seems that Woods may not make it to the second round of the Open as his first round ends in disappointment. He will have to have an excellent second round if he wants to make the cut and continue playing.
