The ongoing Saudi backed LIV Golf Series has caused quite the controversy among the golfing world. As several golfers are making the shift to the LIV series, it has already begun at the Centurion Club just outside London. Among the golfers joining the series include Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Kevin Na, Ian Poulter, Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Reed, just to name a few.

The PGA has expressed its anger and disappointment in the golfers that have made the switch, and gone ahead to ban 17 golfers indefinitely. These include Major Championship winners Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson. Phil Mickelson himself has been paid $200 million to be a part of the series.

After his controversial comments Mickelson went on a self imposed hiatus, and did not come to any events for more than a few months. He recently gave a press conference, and then made his way to the first round of the LIV Series.

“Phil has said some things that a lot of us committed to the tour and the legacy of the tour have been against…some of his views on how the tour should be run, could he run—there’s a lot of disagreement there,” Woods said to thespun.com. He however said that he did miss Mickelson in competition.

Mickelson will be seen again at the US Open, in Boston next week, but Woods won’t be playing. The 15-time major champion continues to recover from the injuries suffered at the PGA Championship. He will however be seen at the British Open for which he is preparing.
