Tiger Woods’ 2006 Open Championship victory is recorded as one of the most glorious achievements of his career. Fans and players alike are missing the GOAT on the field as the event date draws near. 

Many took to social media to recall the historic moment while some including Paige Spiranac noted the importance of the GOAT missing the event. Spiranac stated that she’ll be missing Woods play, “I miss watching Tiger Woods play golf”, according to MEAWW.

Woods fondly recalled his 2006 The Open Championship victory in a video message sent to the Association of Golf Writers for being awarded Outstanding Services to Golf. The 3x Open title winner labeled his victory moment as the “most gratifying” and “a very emotional one”. Furthermore, it was an event where Woods won without the presence of his father.

Tiger Woods dedicated the 2006 Open Championship victory to his father Earl Woods, after he passed away in the same year due to prostate cancer diagnosed in 1998. While recalling his memorable victory moments in the recent message Woods said that he’s sorry for not being present at Hoylake this year. 

Sorry I can’t be with you tonight,” the GOAT stated. The 15x Major winner is still recovering from his surgery and may need a while to get back on the field. Although he subtly mentioned his presence in the future 2024 TGL event as part of one of the 6 teams.

Woods further recalled his past achievements starting from St. Andrew in 1995 and labeled them as “some of the greatest moments and greatest memories I have had”. After successfully defending his 2006 title, Woods broke down in tears as he hugged his then-caddie Steve Williams. 

Nick Faldo characterized his golfing skills as “sheer perfection” while talking about the 2006 event. Woods also looked back at how the journalists were kind to pour him a hot cup of coffee while talking about Muirfield 2002. He stated that he feels grateful that he can now pass on the crown to the upcoming Open Champion with all “the history, the knowledge”.

Wood concluded that he’s now ready to “pass them on to my son and to future generations”. During his time on the field, Woods has created numerous records with his golfing talents. Fans are hoping to see Woods soon on the field with all his glory like in past days.
