Despite progress at Riviera, Tiger Woods continues his losing streak at the iconic L.A. venue and has plans to only play a few tournaments due to his back and leg surgeries.

Tiger Woods’ unsuccessful history at the famous L.A. location continues, as he finished the Genesis Invitational with a score of two-over 73, placing him tied for 45th and an overall score of one under.

This marks the 14th consecutive loss for Woods at the course where he made his debut on the PGA Tour at age 16 in 1992. The 47-year-old arrived at Riviera this past week without having played a competitive round since the Open Championship last July.

Although he feels progress was made, the 15-time major champion admits that his body only permits him to participate in major tournaments and perhaps a few others. During the tournament, Woods had a score of one under, and at the par-4 13th hole, he managed to birdie from the fringe with a 30-foot putt, bringing him to a score of two over for the day. The crowd erupted in a deafening roar, and chants of “TI-GER! TI-GER!” followed.

Woods’ 30-foot birdie putt at the par-4 13th hole helped to redeem an unremarkable round, placing him 15 shots behind Jon Rahm’s lead. Nevertheless, this did not make much of a difference on Sunday at the Genesis Invitational, nor will it have much significance in any official PGA Tour round in which Woods competes.

Despite having never won at the Riviera, Woods continues to trudge up every hill that required trudging and wincing in pain. He finished all four rounds with a broken body because he does not know how to do it any other way.

Even though he left many putts out there on Sunday, he still regards the experience as progress. However, it is not the same adrenaline as playing out on the course. He is very good at simulating that at home, but it is not the same as being out there and doing it.

Tiger Woods’ performance at Riviera and his road to recovery

Tiger Woods’ performance at Riviera in the Genesis Invitational was a mixed bag, but there were certainly some signs of progress. Despite finishing tied for 45th, Woods was able to salvage an otherwise mediocre round with a 30-foot birdie putt on the 13th hole.

This was his first tournament appearance since the Open Championship last July, and although he still showed signs of rust, he was able to compete at a high level despite his broken body.

Woods’ road to recovery has been a long and arduous one, with numerous surgeries on his back and leg. As a result, he’s had to significantly limit the number of tournaments he plays in, with a focus on the majors and a few other select events. This approach seems to be paying off, as he was able to compete in all three majors he played in last year, and he’s hoping to play in all four this year.

Despite the challenges he faces, Woods remains focused on his goal of winning another major championship. He knows that he may never feel 100% again, but he’s determined to give it his all and see how far he can go. For him, the journey is just as important as the destination, and he’s grateful for the opportunity to keep playing the game he loves.
