Commencing on January 9, 2024, TGL, a well-known indoor golf league initiated by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, will kick off. The league has opted for a style known as modern-day matchplay. TGL announced that the season will consist of 15 matches.

The duration of each match will be two hours, divided into two sessions. Every match will involve a face-off between two teams. Each team has the option to pick three individuals from their four-member roster to join. There will be six PGA Tour players participating in every match.

Scheduling and traveling could be negatively impacted by this. The beginning of every TGL game involves nine holes, where teams consisting of three players compete in hitting the ball alternately. Players will participate in a competition against each other during the second session, playing only a total of six holes.

During session 2, two special holes will be assigned to each player. Should a tie occur, a shootout will be held to establish the winner between the players. The winner shall be determined based on the golfer who accomplishes the feat of landing the golf ball closest to the pin.

Throughout the entire season, points will be given out in the following way. Winning in regular time earns two points, while winning in overtime also grants two points. Losing in overtime will still earn one point, whereas losing in regular time will result in no points awarded.

Top 4 teams will make playoffs as per Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s TGL rules

The playoffs will be contested by the top four teams in the standings following 15 regular season matches. Only one game will determine the outcome of the playoffs, and the team that emerges victorious in at least three out of their total games will proceed.

TGL matches are scheduled to happen in a stadium. The participants will compete on a playing field resembling a football pitch, complete with authentic grass and sand. The surface is also equipped with a simulator that stands 64 feet tall.

To aim shots close to the hole in a game, players will hit the ball onto a putting surface that is constantly moving, displaying different angles and curves. Full Swing simulators have created a game complex called the “Green Zone.”

So far, five TGL teams have been unveiled, namely Boston Common, Los Angeles Golf Club, Atlanta Drive GC, as well as two unnamed teams based in New York and San Francisco. TGL presented the new logo for the Boston team, which is under the ownership of Fenway Sports Group, on Monday.
