Phil Mickelson recurringly makes it to the news owing to his antics on and off the field. The pro golfer has been involved in controversies ever since he jumped ship to join the cash-rich Saudi PIF-backed LIV Golf. From accusations regarding unequal treatment to court cases, LIV Golf certainly has made itself synonymous with controversial remarks.
Brooks Koepka who’s fresh off his victory in the final LIV Golf invitational series in Jeddah had his emotions outpouring after his scintillating performance. Both Mickelson and Koepka are in Miami geared up to take part in the LIV Finale to be hosted in Miami having a £44 million cash purse.
The Trump National Doral is all set to host top golfers like Cameron Smith, Ian Poulter, and Joaquin Niemann among several others in the season showdown of LIV Golf. The mouth-watering fixtures have been set with everyone’s eye on the Mickelson vs Smith as players engage themselves in a rather heated press conference.
Phil Mickelson wasn’t having any of Brooks Koepka remarks
Amidst all the trailblazing around this event, fans got to experience a different range of emotions that one definitely wouldn’t associate with golf. Fans couldn’t fathom what they witnessed with Mickelson and Brooks Koepka just having a go at each other. A simple question to Koepka about choosing his opponent turned into a rather frenzy moment for everyone out there.
Mickelson exclaimed out of nowhere – “woah, woah, woah” on finding that Koepka can indeed choose any player to play against from the seven teams which didn’t undergo their first round. After the taunt from Mickelson, Koepka definitely took that personally and hit Phil with – “you’ve never been No. 1 in the world”. Mickelson couldn’t help himself with another short jab towards Brook regarding his outfit.
With such to-and-fro remarks, fans wondered for a while if all this was rehearsed beforehand, such was the jibe-taking affair between the duo. Keeping the rather heated conversation aside, Koepka ended up choosing Harold Varner III to play against in the quarter-finals at Trump Doral.
