Presidents Cup 2022: Trevor Immelman not concerned about missing LIV players, says ‘we are team of honour’

Trevor Immelman is hoping to give a fight to the US team in the Presidents Cup.

Presidents Cup 2022 is the talk of the town once again as one of the biggest tournaments in the history of golf. The event is just around the corner. Ahead of the tournament, all eyes will be on the US team who is the favorite to lift the title and they have proved that in past as well.

During the tournament, a 12-man US team will go up against a 12-man International team (excluding a European team), and it’s a four-day tournament. Trevor Immelman and Co. will be hoping to deny the US their 12th Presidents Cup crown as they currently trail the US golfing team 1-1-11.

US Team will be without the likes of Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Reed, and Dustin Johnson who have chosen LIV Golf ahead of the loyalty to the national team. And on the other hand, The Internationals will be without Cameron Smith, who decided to switch to the Saudi-backed league after the conclusion of the PGA Tour season.

Trevor Immelman isn’t concerned about being in a team without Cameron Smith

Despite being without the World No.2 Cameron Smith, Trevor Immelman said that he is happy with the team and they are men of honors.

“Our team is a team that plays by the rules,” he said. “We’re a team of our word. We’re a team of honor. “Every single player that I spoke to from early on in this process knew exactly what the situation and the consequences were going to be,” he said.

“And they knew that if they made certain decisions, it was going to be highly unlikely they were going to be able to represent the International team. So that went into their decision-making process. All the cards were out on the table, and everybody knew where they stood.”

A couple of weeks back – Immelman was forced to pick a few rookies in the team after being wrecked by LIV defection. For the Presidents Cup, the 42-year-old golfer from South Africa picked up the likes of Si Woo Kim, K.H. Lee, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Sebastián Muñoz, Taylor Pendrith and Cam Davis as his six captain’s picks. The tournament is scheduled to begin on Thursday in New York City.

These golfers will join Hideki Matsuyama, Corey Connors, Sungjae Im, Joohyung Kim, Mito Pereira, and Adam Scott, who auto-qualified for the tournament in the international squad.
