Golf fans shocked as LIV Golf leverages its financial might to salvage OWGR Points for its players
LIV Golf MENA Tour
LIV Golf has been reeling in controversies ever since it set foot in the golfing arena. It seems that the Saudi-backed golf circuit is fighting battle after battle to maintain its relevance regarding itself and the players it signed. It has been a roller-coaster ride for the middle-east outfit as it looks to challenge the much more traditional and conservative PGA Tour as the primary golfing circuit.
The latest addition to the list of battles for LIV is the OWGR rankings that the golfers have been deprived of due to their allegiance with LIV Golf. The first five events of the LIV invitational series have been played without the players being considered for OWGR points.

MENA Tour comes to LIV Golf’s rescue
The players won’t have to suffer any much longer for their OWGR points as LIV has secured a partnership with MENA Tour. Under this tactical alliance, the LIV Golf events will be sanctioned by the MENA Tour. This will allow the player associated with LIV Golf to receive world-ranking points.
MENA Tour has been given recognition by OWGR. It is a third-tier circuit that came into being in 2011. Players like Cameron Smith and Dustin Johnson won’t have a problem anymore as the upcoming LIV Thailand invitational event qualifies for OWGR courtesy of the MENA Tour.
David Spencer, commissioner of the MENA Tour was overjoyed with this partnership with LIV Golf. He explained cheerfully how this is a big thing for MENA as it gives them more spotlight. “Through this alliance, our players will now have enhanced playing opportunities and stronger pathways. This is great news for the future of many young players on our tour” – Spencer said.
LIV Golf is set to make its Asia debut at Stonehill in Thailand from tomorrow. The three-day event has been long awaited by Asian fans with some local talent also participating in the event. Cameron Smith will be looking to defend the title that he won at the Boston invitational last month.
