Fans confused as LIV Golf does away with golf traditions, ‘shorts officially allowed’ for events
LIV Golf allows shorts
The LIV Golf series has caused quite the controversy since its inception, and things are just getting worse. The Saudi backed series has garnered a lot of backlash, as have to golfers who have decided to join the series. Golfers including the likes of Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Smith have been sanctioned and suspended, as the PGA Tour retaliates to the new threat.
However, the LIV Series is going strong, introducing new changes to the way traditional golf is played. They have reduced the number of holes to 54, and have even introduced no cuts. The biggest, ‘freshest’ way to play golf however has been the introduction of the team competitions- where teams of 4-5 golfers play for cash prizes as well.
As LIV expands more into a fresh market, they have made another change to their way of playing. According to the PGA Tour, “Shorts or denim are not permitted to be worn by male competitors. Khakis or slacks and collared shirts must be worn by all male players. Female competitors may wear shorts or skirts.” However, LIV Golf has done away with the rule, and has allowed shorts to be worn on the course.

Changes to the rules of LIV Golf will not hide their underlying problems
Many people thought that changing the dress code was rather valid, as the PGA has been following centuries of old traditions that may need to change. However, others thought that changing the dress code and bringing about new rules is not going to hide the fact that the Saudi backed series is facing issues.
