“Enjoy Thailand, boys”: Twitter reacts to hypocrisy of 2023 LIV Golf Schedule after false promises of ‘looser schedule’ and more ‘family time’ for golfers
LIV Golf
The LIV Golf series has caused quite the controversy since its inception, as the Saudi backed Series has seemed to split the golf world into two stark opinions. Several golfers who defected from the PGA Tour had cited the reason that they wanted to have more time to their families, and have a flexible schedule when it comes to playing.
However, recently the 2023 LIV Golf Schedule was announced with a prize fund of $405m with 48 players with 12 established ‘team franchises’ expected to take part in the events scheduled throughout the year. LIV Golf did not announce next year’s tournament dates and locations but said it would “expand LIV Golf’s global footprint” with events in North America, Latin America, Australia, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
This means that 2023 Schedule will require golfers to attend 14 events and the Major competitions that will be held over the season. This also signifies that the year will have just one less competition than the PGA Tour which the golfers defected from- causing Twitter to call out the hypocrisy that the LIV Series had promised.
2023 LIV Golf Series announces Schedule- and Twitter is not having it
The LIV Series had promised to give the golfers more time to spend with their families, but the 2023 Schedule seems to say something different. Twitter was not happy about it, calling out the golfers and series on the platform for the false promises it made. Golfers have to also play mandatory events, meaning that golfers will not be able to ‘make their own schedule’.
The LIV Series seems to be in the limelight for wrong reasons, and it does not seem to be getting better any time soon. The golfers that are defecting are facing the issues by the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour.
