“He’s losing to 11 amateurs”: Twitterati fire shots at Phil Mickelson’s over US Open performance
Phil Mickelson
The Golf US Open is currently underway, from 16th to 19th June at the Country Club in Brookline. Two days into the course, Callum Tarren, David Lingermerth, Rory McIlroy, and Joel Dahmen are in the lead tied for first place. Tensions are however running high, especially as the defectors of the LIV Golf Series and the PGA Tour players come together to play.
Amongst these golfers is Phil Mickelson, the 52-year-old who has made quite the headlines over the last few months. This includes being paid around $200 million by the LIV Series to come and join them. However, as he made his comeback at the US Open in Brookline, it was a struggle to say the least.
He is missed the cut after the first round, as he had a nightmare first day, which might be attributed to his age and the fact that he is coming back after a fairly long break. However, Twitterati were quick to attack him, especially after his recent controversies.
Twitterati debate over Phil Mickelson’s performance at the Golf US Open
While his performance at the US Open was less than average to say the least, Phil Mickelson was quick to garner the distaste of several twitter users. They especially seemed disappointed by the money that he took from the LIV Series, and then came back to play at the US Open.
Many people did end up calling Porter’s tweet as a cheap shot, saying that it was incredible for Mickelson to be peforming at that level at his age and after a long break.
