As the golfing world prepares itself for the upcoming Ryder Cup, excitement levels are on the rise. The same cannot be said of some players, as they are unhappy with the new FedEx Cup Fall setup. 2016 PGA Championship winner Jimmy Walker has now blasted the tour for his new setup.

The regular season of the tour concluded last month with the FedEx Cup. This event saw Norwegian golfer Viktor Hovland top the 2022-23 standings and claim the marquee trophy. The adjustments made by the league for the events after the FedEx Cup are now being criticized by golfers.

As per the new format, the ongoing Fortinet Championship along with the six events will determine the outcome of the participants for the next season. “They changed the rules. It’s been 125 forever. Then it’s like, no, it’s 50, or is it 70? It’s definitely not 125. It’s total bulls***t, that’s what I think of it,” Walker was quoted by Golfweek.

The veteran golfer, who is currently ranked 124th in the FedEx Cup standings, would see himself as being cleared of exemption for next season. However, as per the new rules, he now has to grind for the next three months to ensure his qualification. “I’ve been working for 11 months to finish 124 and it’s like, nope, keep playing. So I’m going to give it all I’ve got. That’s all I can do,” the six-time PGA Tour winner added.

Jimmy Walker slams PGA Tour for bad communication in recent rant

Ever since the PGA Tour announced a merger with LIV Golf, they have been under tremendous pressure. After a raging war with their rivals, their sudden handshake was not well received by golfers and fans. Jimmy Walker is also not a fan of the merger and blamed the PGA Tour for its bad communication process during this phase.

Walker claimed that many people reached out to him and shared their congratulations for making it to the 125. He though had to explain to them the current situation and fired further shots at the PGA Tour. “It’s different. I had to explain. They’ve done such a bad job communicating with what is happening, partly because I don’t think they knew what was happening, honestly,” he further added in his defense.

The 44-year-old concluded by saying that the merger announcement changed a lot of things and admitted he has no idea about the future of golf. There has been some uncertainty regarding it as the top bosses have still not appeared before the US Senate. What further changes will be implemented once the merger finally goes through also remains to be seen.
